Ah well.. nothing (and no one) is perfect.
I despise ads and marketing but I do understand that running a website is not free.. Considering how little websites actually make from advertising I seriously doubt they do anything but break even....
You are correct. SourceForge.net is funded through advertising. If Microsoft wants to help fund Open Source development by running Visual Studio ads - then good luck to them. You don't have to buy -- but their advertising dollars do keep the good work of SF.net running 24x7...
